Why GARDEN exists

It started with a hunting trip—and an uncomfortable question.

GARDEN grew out of a conviction about preparation: if I could put enormous thought into something I enjoyed, what would it look like to bring that same intentionality to the people I cared about?

This is not a ministry formula. It is a practical toolkit for ordinary Christians who want to become more intentional about evangelism in the relationships they already have.

I was preparing obsessively.

I was getting ready for a hunting trip, and I was doing what serious hunters do before heading into unfamiliar country: studying everything I could.

Mountain ranges
Basins & drainages
Water sources
Likely success areas
Pack & gear
Food & logistics

I was willing to spend hours thinking ahead—trying to understand the terrain, anticipate problems, and improve the odds of being ready when the moment came.

Then a question landed harder than I expected: What would this kind of preparation look like if I applied it to evangelism?

Not evangelism as a program. Not approaching strangers with a script. I was thinking about the people already in my life—friends, relatives, coworkers, neighbors, people I genuinely cared about and would probably know for years.

I realized I often cared deeply about them, prayed generally for them, and hoped spiritual conversations would happen—but I was not nearly as intentional about preparing for those conversations as I was about preparing for a hobby.

The turning point

So I started writing down names.

I began adding friends and family members to my prayer journal. Alongside their names, I kept simple notes about conversations, questions, beliefs, and possible seeds worth planting later.

“What is one thoughtful seed—or one ‘stone in the shoe’—that might help this person take another step toward truth?”
From habit to framework
01

Remember the person.

Instead of treating evangelism as isolated conversations, pay attention to a person’s story, beliefs, questions, and experiences over time.

02

Prepare between conversations.

You do not have to know the answer in the moment. Think, pray, research, and return later with something useful.

03

Play the long game.

Plant thoughtful seeds without trying to force an outcome. Relationships give ideas time to be considered, revisited, and explored.

The mission

Help ordinary Christians become intentional, prepared, and faithful.

GARDEN is designed for believers who care about evangelism but may feel unprepared, uncomfortable, or unsure where to begin.

The goal is not to turn every Christian into a professional apologist. It is to help Christians grow from silence toward thoughtful engagement—and to keep growing after that.

01
Relationships before tactics.People are not projects.
02
Questions before assumptions.Listen and understand before trying to answer.
03
Preparation instead of pressure. You are allowed to think and return later.
04
Resources instead of pretending expertise.Know where to go when a question arises.
05
Faithfulness instead of manufactured results. Our responsibility is real; the outcome belongs to God.
What success looks like

Sometimes success is simply no longer staying silent.

Growth can begin long before someone feels capable of giving a polished answer.

Stage One: “That’s a good question. I’m not sure how I’d answer that right now. Let me think about it and get back to you.”
Stage Two: “What do you mean by that?” “How did you come to that conclusion?” “Why do you think that’s true?”
Stage Three: Thoughtful questions combined with direct explanations, corrections, evidence, and worldview analysis.
Truth matters

Relational does not mean vague.

GARDEN encourages patience, listening, and humility, but none of those require treating every idea as equally true. Christianity makes real claims about God, Jesus, Scripture, humanity, morality, history, and salvation.

The aim is to pursue those questions carefully—grounded in Scripture, historic Christian orthodoxy, sound reasoning, evidence, and fair treatment of opposing views.

A toolkit, not an authority.

GARDEN, its recommended voices, its research library, and its AI frameworks are tools. None are infallible. Scripture remains primary, and Christians should continue developing the knowledge and judgment needed to evaluate what they encounter.

The first move is small

You do not need a platform. You need a person.

Think of one person already in your life. Begin praying for them. Pay attention. Learn. Prepare. And when an opportunity comes, be willing to take the next faithful step.
